My 18 month old loves The Science Musuem. Did you know in the basement is The Garden . Though it may look at little ominous from this below picture, I can assure you it's actually pretty special! And what's more, admission to The Science Museum is free. The sign suggests the Garden suitable for ages 3-6 and I'll let you decide for yourself...but my 1 year old loves it!

You can't access The Garden from every lift and staircase so keep an eye out on the floor list, but you can use the lift by the Energy Cafe or there's two more lifts just past the Space exhibition as well as stairs that lead down to it. Opposite The Garden is a spare room for buggies and pushchairs (left at your own risk), and also an eating area and cafe.

My munchkin adores water, playing in it, watching it and just generally being close to it, so you can imagine her delight for this little section. The Museum also have waterproof coveralls for you to use, though be warned they may get their trousers and shoes wet. The staff aka 'Explainers' are always on hand and are fab!

It also has various sensory play

If you still want to carry on exploring after The Garden, my advice would be to head back up to the ground-floor. Look out for Major Tim Peaks spacecraft as tucked that and the world's largest tyre, you will find the 'Pattern Pod'. Completely interactive and does what it says in the tin, or rather pod in this case

Our final fav is the History of Flying located on the top floor and you have to walk past the Exploring Space Exhibition (which is the best!)

Closest tube station: South Kensington

Fancy getting outdoors after the Science Museum? Hyde Park is a few minutes walk and its a 20 min (ish) walk to the Diana Memorial Playground aka Peter Pan Park, check out my Hyde Park for Toddler's post.
